Hello and welcome to History Havoc. I created this site a few years ago (I had to delete the old site and I am starting new) just to have a place for me to write about things I find interesting in history. Even though I lost all the old writing I did, I am back for more.
My day job is a social studies teacher at a local high school. And I love my job. I can’t see doing anything other than teaching for the rest of my career. My favorite class to teach might be World History. For a few years I got the chance to teach AP World History, and I loved it.
I am also an avid learner. I love learning how to improve myself in my profession, and I love learning about history. In 2020, during the Covid shutdown, I finally finished my master’s degree. This allowed me to teach a dual credit course through the local community college, which I loved. In the spring of 2022, I decided to take the leap and enroll in Liberty University’s Ph.D program for US History.
Why Liberty? Well for one it is a quality educational institution, and it is the only online Ph.D. program out there right now for history. The only college that I could maybe make it to for classes would be Baylor University, and it is way to expensive. There is no other Ph.D. program near me, and I have really found a home at the school I am currently teaching. So, it just made sense. Continue working at a school I love and do my Ph. D. online.
Outside of work, I love to travel. Each summer I take students on trips overseas. So far we have traveled to Ireland, Wales, Scotland, England, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, and Spain. We also have trips planned to add France and Japan to that long list in the coming summers. In total, I have traveled to 16 different countries, and even lived in South Korea for 3 years teaching English. In addition I have been to 33 of our 50 states.
As for history, I am fascinated by just about anything. My favorite US time periods include the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and Cold War. I also have a big interest in world history. I am becoming more and more fascinated by Asian history, especially the Mongols and China. But my interests are highly varied.
