Doris Day – We Didn’t Start the Fire

Today I continue the We Didn’t Start the Fire series with Doris Day.

Day was an American anctress and singer. Born in 1922 she made her film debut in the musical Romance on the High Seas in 1948. She starred beside Rock Hudson in 3 big films in the 50s and 60s. Day ended her film career in 1968 and then starred in her televison show called The Doris Day Show (1968-1973).

She was born Doris Mary Anne Kappelhoff in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was in 1939 after starting her singing career on the WLW radio program Carlin’s Carnival that it was suggested to her to use the stage name of Doris Day.

In 1945 she recoreded her first #1 hit with “Sentimental Journey.” She went on to record numerous albums from 1949-1965, and actually had 2 released years after recording. Released in 1994 but recorded in 1967, The Love Album would go on to be her 2nd to last release. And My Heart was recorded in 1985 and released in 2011.

She was nominated in 196067 for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her part in Pillow Talk. She won 4 Golden Globes and received lifetime achievment awards from both the Grammy’s and the American Comedy Awards.
